Ex-LMSR Class 8P Princess 4-6-2 No. 46212 Duchess of Kent climbs the last mile towards Beattock Summit with the 11.5am train from Birmingham New Street to Glasgow Central during July 1959. The leading four vehicles of the train consist of a pair of ex-LMSR articulated excursion stock twins. [David Anderson]

Ex-LMSR Class 6P Jubilee 4-6-0 No. 45671 Prince Rupert enters the 'down' platform at Carstairs Station with the 09.15SO Crewe to Glasgow Central train on 18th August, 1962. No. 45671 was built at Crewe in 1935 and withdrawn from service in 1963. Unfortunately the characterful and impressive station buildings and platform canopy seen here have recently been demolished, leaving the island platform almost bereft of buildings. [K.M. Falconer]
